Can you spot the difference ?
Many fans went into a frenzy after the left picture above of songwriter and singer India Arie’s promo picture for her new single “Cocoa Butter” was released. The hype started when fans noticed an unrecognizable India Arie who is notably known for her hit song “Brown Skin.” She appeared to look much lighter than usual on the cover of the picture. Considering that India’s lyrics promote self acceptance and beauty fans could not understand why she would want to bleach her skin.
However the singer denies any accusations of bleaching. Sources close to India Arie told TMZ that the criticism is ridiculous because the “lightened”skin is merely the product of the camera flash and angle. They also stated that the singer never asked to be lightened. Many people may agree but still wonder if the singer has the authority to approve the picture before it is published.
Just several months ago India Arie went into a tirade over the Nina Simone biopic skin color controversy. Zoe Saldana was selected to play Nina Simone in the film however Saldana’s characteristics and physical attribute didn’t sit well with Arie once the pictures for the film were released. She stated on Nina Simone’s website, “Yes there should be a movie made, and YES they should have chosen someone who LOOKS like Nina Simone, ESPECIALLY since her RACE played such a PIVOTAL role in WHO, WHAT and WHY, she was. THAT ASIDE for a second, this just looks WEIRD, it looks like a person in Black(er) face with a fake nose … REALLY?!!!!”
Issues pertaining to the skin in the African American community especially in the entertainment industry is not uncommon. Beyonce has been accused of lightening her skin on several occasions. Kelly Rowland recently spoke in an interview about accepting her brown skin and influencing Brandy to speak about her insecurities as a child. Other celebs who have been rumored to be bleaching over the years are endless, but we wont get into that. Another story another day. *Sips Tea*
It should be no shocker that aspiring singer Erica Mena went and did a video for her song giving to her by Rich Dollaz “Where Do I Go From Here.” If you have not been keeping up with this season Love and Hip Hop NY let me catch you up to date in a nut shell. Rich Dollaz Erica’s manager and
boyfriend gave Erica a song mixed it , mastered it etc. . . free of no charge because obviously that was his girl and he wanted to see her succeed. Erica and Rich gets into it for the 50th time during this season about Erica going off doing her own thing not respecting Rich as her manager and making him look bad. Out of anger and spite Rich gives the song to his other artist and best friend Olivia. Olivia kills the song making the song Top #10 on Itunes the first week it was released.
So what does Erica do, releases a video for the track. Determined to prove to the world she has what it takes to be an successful artist, showing the world she can actually sing but Erica shows a little more than some high notes in this video. In the video Erica arrives home to find out via letter that her lover is leaving her. Erica takes her sorrows to the bath tub where she is submerging in water fully clothed but of course the clothes come off as expected. Its hard to tell whether or not Erica is really distraught or trying to give the viewers a reason to keep watching.
I mean sex sells . . . I guess ?
I wont spoil the whole video, watch it below and you be the judge . . .

As I told yall Chris Brown has definitely turned a new leaf. He’s back doing interviews as he told his fans during his interview with Ebony he would start doing. He dropped by Big Boy’s Neighborhood on Power 106 in L.A where the two talked about Beef with Drake and Frank Ocean and keeping his personal life and relationship with Rihanna private.
Highlights on some of the interview below:
On His Beef With Drake
It’s not entertainment for me I think it’s me more being real and saying what I gotta say. I ain’t out here trying to go at him. I ain’t got people after him. I’m just chillin’. I have my differences and he has his. His music’s still hot. I would look like the corniest dude ever if I just stood up there and got mad every time I heard [his] record [in a club]. He gon’ hear me. I’m gon’ hear him. *laughs* What I’m not gon’ do is I’m not gon’ put myself in a situation for anything to mess up my career. Focus on what it is. Focus on your music.
On his beef with Frank Ocean
It’s in the past, some stuff went down but it’s not what people [made it out to be.] It was sensationalized, I have respect for his music and I’m not trying to go down that route. I do my music so I’m good.
On his decision to do interviews again
Every day is a learning step. For me now, not being so hesitant about doing interviews. It’s not that anymore. I’m damn near 25, about to be 24, I can’t live my life in the shadow. I can’t live my life being ashamed of who I am because I love who I am. I love myself and I love my fans.
When was the last time you saw Rihanna?
Uh…it’s been a minute though. I haven’t got the chance to go out there and go on the tour yet ’cause I’ve been working, but I seen her right before that.
Are you in love, Chris?
Huh? I’m a lover man. Definitely a lover.
Are you going to fly out to the tour?
Yeah I’m gonna try to catch a couple of the shows. I heard it’s amazing. I saw some of the rehearsal shows.
On if it’s hard to maintain privacy
I think it has to do with how much we are in the public eye and how accessible we are. I think mystery is key so that’s why half the time I don’t get on my Twitter. I don’t even have an Instagram no more. It’s like the mystery is in the music and the madness. So, whatever my talent is, I want them to focus on that so I can be able to do my personal stuff without…I know the paparazzi is gonna be there but they ain’t gonna know, know, know.
Watch part 1 and 2 of the interview below:
It seems as though after Nicki Minaj showed all 16 MILLION followers her real hair, other celebrities have joined the trend. But before Nicki many females in the entertainment business have gone all natural and put their real hair on social networking sites, to prove that they do have long hair under the wigs and weaves. Many women wear wigs and weaves to protect their real hair *pats weave*.
Nicki uploaded this pic of her natural hair on Twitter where her Barbz and Kens went HAM ! Hash tagging the picture “#Longhairdontcare #hangtime #ImaWearItOutWhenItTouchesMyASS‘
Angela Simmons too uploaded a similar picture of her hair chemical free after pressing it out, some naysayers talked ill about the pictures, until her hair stylist Nikk Nelson stood up in her defense Tweeting about her client’s hair.
“What a healthy head of natural hair looks like after a good extension job! Black women can have long hair without weave. She wears a weave to protect her natural hair. We keep it natural and healthy! #getpressed #getaweave #wegrowhair”
