Timbaland Opens Up About Drug Addiction, Suffering From Depression & More With Rolling Stone

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, legendary producer, writers and rapper Timbaland opened up about struggles with addiction and depression. Timbaland who began to take OxyContin started taking the pain medication in his 30’s to help with nerve issues resulting from a gunshot wound he suffered as a teenager. But soon after, he got hooked as his depression worsened and his chart success declined, which also effected his marriage.

All I can tell you is that there was a light,” he said of his near-overdose. “I woke up trying to catch my breath, like I was underwater. But through that whole thing I saw life – I saw where I would be if I don’t change, and where I could be if I did…I thought about Michael Jackson. I didn’t want to be old and taking these pills

After experiencing a near death experience from the drugs, Timbo said he weaned himself off the pills and made a clean break. Admitting he still smoked marijuana and drinks alcohol but discourages young fans and musicians to stay away from counterfeit pain pills.

Currently, he’s working on a solo album which is due out next year with appearances from Justin Timberlake, Rick Ross, Zayn Malik as well as a few others. He too recently wrapped up Justin Timberlake’s next album.
