Actress and co-host of The Real, Tamera Mowry-Housely recently sat down for an interview with Cocoa Fab where she talked about losing her virginity at age 29, while revealing that she’s very traditional in her approach to love and relationships.
I’m very traditional. I’m old school and that’s just how I am. It’s in my DNA. I had to get to the point where I just had to embrace carrying the torch for the traditional girls out there. I love representing the traditional black woman.
1. Don’t be rachet. Be refined.
Like my grandmother always said, ‘dare to be different’,” says Tamera. While it’s popular these days to be the Rihanna to his Chris (okay, sans the abuse fiasco), consider being different from all of the overly sexy, turnt up girls. Guys want someone who stands out from the crowd. Remember, there’s a HUGE difference between wifey and wife! Don’t get it twisted.
2. Practice doesn’t make perfect when it comes to sex
If you start having sex at such a young age, by the time you’re in your 30s and 40s, it’s old. And you’re trying many different ways to keep it new,” says Tamera. “I wanted to experience all of that once I got married and living with my husband.” Perhaps trying all of the kama sutra positions with your jumpoffs and boyfriends isn’t the best thing. After all, that will leave nothing new to explore for your husband.
3. Shacking up may be a recipe for disaster.
I’m also conservative about relationships like living together before you’re married. We just spoke about that and I don’t think you should. I didn’t want to live with my boyfriend because I wanted to get married to experience that. All the other girls, except for Jeannie, wanted to know what they were getting before they got married. My position is that I’m jumping into this thing on faith,” says Tamera says of debating the topic on The Real. “Statistics show that if you live with your husband before you’re married, divorce rates are higher.” Cohabitating before marriage may also make the goal of marriage less important because you’re already playing house. You know the saying about the cow and the free milk… right!
4. Motherhood is the CEO position you’ve been waiting for
I get called the 1950s mom all the time. I never thought that wanting to be with your child all the time, would be considered being a 1950s mom,” says Tamera of juggling jobs and motherhood. But reality tv and business deals take a backseat to family. “Before I had Aden, I was in control of as much as humanly possible I thought. And having Aden taught me, ‘Tamera you just have to let that go.’ You just have to live day by day, take it an hour at a time. I don’t overwhelm myself and I prioritize. My family is number one. So whatever makes my son happy, my husband happy, that’s what I do.
5. Organic and homemade are a black girl’s best friend
I make my baby food myself. It’s healthier but it’s more time consuming, but it is cheaper. A lot of the baby foods out there have GMOs, genetically modified foods, in them and they have preservatives and chemicals and that are being linked to autism. It’s not a proven fact but it is assumed to be linked to autism,” says Tamera who insists that making baby food isn’t just a white girl fad. “So I buy organic food for my baby and I make it. I buy, blend it, freeze it and it’s all mine. Yep, I work and I make the food. It’s possible. I also nursed for a really long time and that’s the best thing you can do. I did it while I was working. My thing is I will go to the extreme for my child to have the best. It’s just in me. It may be tiring and exhausting but I do it.
6. Having it all together is no fun
I remember when I first had Aden, naturally you want to be the best mom you can be, I wanted to do everything. I did everything to the best of my ability and I was stressing myself out because you have to learn to just relax and know that every day isn’t going to be perfect. You cant control everything,” says Tamera. “I was OCD but I was never organized so my house will be really clean but under a bed will be a mess, and the drawers will be a mess. Now the only way I can think straight is if I organize things in my life. But you’re never going to have that 100% down.” Remember, do what you can, while you can, the best you can and enjoy the ride along the way.
Actor Denzel Washington and wife Pauletta have been married over 30 years and in August’s issue of Ebony Magazine: The Black Wealth Issue, the two gush about what it takes to maintain a long and healthy marriage. Despite the rumors that have circulated around the couple over the course of the years, the two knows what it takes for a relationship to be successful.
During the interview Denzel revealed that he courted his wife for six whole years before walking down the aisle and Pauletta revealed what it is like being married to a “sex symbol.”
I live with this man. I see the down part. I see the sad part. I see every part. He has and knows he has that stability in me as his wife. That’s gives him strength, regardless of if he misuses it. I can’t dwell on that. But I do know that gives him a great platform to go and fly.
The legendary actor too revealed that
There’s no magical mystery to [staying together] … We go through up and downs like any couple,” and continues, “We live in a time — and it’s not for me to judge anyone — when people give up too easy.”
This is the power couple’s first cover together since 1996, when they posed for Essence Magazine’s “Cherishing Our Families” issue. To say long overdue is an understatement.
The issue is now on newsstand

Beyonce told y’all “if you like it then you should of put a ring on it,” and that’s exactly what Kevin Durant did. Back in 2011 Kevin Durant tweeted that he wanted a girlfriend that played basketball and hinted at Monica Wright. 2 years later Kevin Durant took Beyonce’s advice. Just weeks after singing a deal with Roc Nation Sports, Kevin proposed to his girlfriend Monica Wright. The funny thing about this story is fans of the movie Love and Basketball know that Nia Long played leading lady Monica Wright in the movie and ironically Kevin Durant’s wife not only plays basketball but has the same exact name. A true Love & Basketball moment. Congrats you too !
Before Amber Rose and Wiz Khalifa had a baby they had been teasing fans with the idea of a wedding. Back in May, Amber took her Instagram and uploaded a picture of the bottom of her gown with a caption that read “Can you guess which dress I’m getting fitted for today?” but the couple wanted to wait until baby “Bash” was born to officially have a wedding. Well the two made it official yesterday and tied the knot in a small, courthouse ceremony. Amber Rose tweeted “yay me and my baby are officially married!!!” and posted the above picture on Instagram. Wiz also shared his excitement on his Twitter, tweeting “Me and Amber got married today. Weddings this fall. Thought I’d let yall know.” Congrats to them !
It seems like this messy divorce lasted longer than their 72 day marriage did and in the end NOTHING got accomplished, well at least on Krim Humphries half it didn’t.
Kimyee (Kim Kardashian and Kanye West) can now live happily ever after, today the judge dissolved the marriage between Kim and Kris which took 2 years to do. Kris tried to get $7 mill out the deal but he ended up walking away NOTHING.
According to reports this whole ordeal has cost them about $300,000 each in attorney fees and lets not forget about the multi-million dollar wedding. Kris had many attempts to reveal that the wedding was nothing more than for publicity for Kim’s reality show but all of them fell onto deaf ears.
This is the second time Kimyee has filed for divorce. Do you think hear wedding bells for Kim and Kanye in the near future ? Third time is the charm, right ?
My mother always said if you have a dream or a goal put it on paper and watch it materialize. I guess for this situation its pretty much the same concept. Last year when the above photo of Beyonce went viral on the net fans were ecstatic to know King Bey supported gay marriage and applauded her good deed for the day only to find out the picture is completely photo-shopped.
Now today as the Supreme Court decides whether or not they want to overturn Proposition 8 (law banning same sex marriage in California) Beyonce has taken her Instagram, Twitter and Facebook account to speak out on the law. In efforts to support same sex marriage Beyonce uploaded a handwritten message to her fans. “If you like it you should be able to put a ring on it“, she wrote, a line from her infamous #1 song ‘Single Ladies.’ She then continued to say “#we will unite 4 marriage equality.”
She also posted an image of the Human Rights Campaign, a red equal sign logo with the caption and hastags that read “Its about time . . . #equality #prop8 #marriageislove . . . show your support !!”
The struggle to equalize gay marriages has been a battle especially in states such as California and Georgia while in other states like New York and Washington DC gay marriage is permitted. Unfortunately although these states allow same sex marriages, DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act of 1996) prevents same sex marriage couples from participating in federal programs such as social security and filing of joint tax returns. The biggest part of DOMA that is being challenged today is Part Three which makes it so that individual states do not have to legally recognize or acknowledge a gay or lesbian couple that were married in another state.
